Construction Dumpster Rental
Construction sites mostly run 30-yard dumpsters with 4 tons included, with 20-yards for tighter lots and 10 or 15-yards for concrete. Swaps book by 3 PM for next-day service, and every invoice carries the certified landfill scale ticket.
Which dumpster size for a construction site?
Most construction sites use a 30-yard dumpster with 4 tons included, because framing scrap, packaging and drywall are bulky but light. Smaller trades and tight lots use a 20-yard. Concrete and masonry go in a separate 10 or 15-yard, loaded halfway.
How do dumpster swaps work on a job site?
A swap means we pull the full dumpster and drop an empty one in the same spot. Each swap counts as a new standard rental with its own 7 days and included tons. Book by 3:00 PM for next-day service, and keep the box level-full so it can travel.
How heavy is mixed construction debris?
Mixed construction debris varies more by material than by volume. Framing lumber and packaging are light; plaster, tile, roofing and wet drywall are heavy, so demolition loads can pass the 4 included tons in a 30-yard. Extra weight is $75 per ton, billed by the pound.
Site rules that change the dumpster plan
Three federal rules affect construction dumpsters. Chutes are required for high drops, asbestos needs inspection before demolition, and pre-1978 homes need lead-safe work. These are the laws; confirm details with your permit office.
- Chutes: material dropped more than 20 ft outside the exterior walls must go through an enclosed chute (OSHA 29 CFR 1926.252(a)).
- Asbestos: demolition and renovation of regulated structures need an inspection and, above set amounts, advance notice (EPA 40 CFR 61.145). Asbestos never goes in our dumpsters.
- Lead paint: paid renovators in pre-1978 homes follow lead-safe practices (EPA RRP Rule, 40 CFR 745).
Where the dumpster goes
On a construction site the dumpster goes where the truck can back straight in on firm ground, away from trenches, fresh flatwork and overhead lines. Mark the spot with a cone or paint and tell us the gate code; a locked gate means a $125 trip fee.
- Driveway protection: our drivers set wooden boards under the steel rails so the container does not crack or scratch concrete or asphalt.
- Truck access: the roll-off truck typically needs about 60 ft of straight approach and about 23 ft of overhead clearance from wires and branches.
- Street placement: a container on a public street or right-of-way usually needs a city permit. Your city page links the official rule.
- You don't need to be home: the driver texts or calls 20 to 30 minutes before arrival. If the drop spot is clear, the drop goes ahead.
Blocked access (parked cars, low wires, a locked gate) means a $125 trip fee. More in dumpster placement and driveway care.
How your final bill is worked out
Construction bills follow the same rule on every box: quoted rental, plus weight over the included tons at $75 per ton and days past 7 at $25 each. Each final invoice carries its certified scale ticket, so you can bill the weight through to your client.

Questions renters ask
Can I keep a dumpster on site for the whole build?
You can keep a dumpster past the included 7 days for $25 per extra day, or swap it when full. Most builds swap a 30-yard as each phase fills it, since a swap resets the days and the included tons.
Can concrete go in the same dumpster as framing scrap?
Concrete, brick and dirt are allowed only in 10 and 15-yard dumpsters, loaded halfway, so they don't go in a 30-yard with framing scrap. Order a separate small box for masonry and keep it clean for clean-fill pricing.
Do I need to be on site for delivery?
Nobody needs to be on site if the drop spot is clear and the gate is open. The driver texts or calls 20 to 30 minutes before arrival to confirm placement. A blocked or locked site means a $125 trip fee.
Do you provide a scale ticket for each dumpster?
Every final invoice includes a digital copy of the certified landfill scale ticket for that dumpster. Invoices arrive 3 to 5 business days after pickup, which keeps job costing simple.
